ICFTU protests to Colombian government
Brussels, 24 October 2001 (ICFTU OnLine): In a letter to the President of Colombia, the ICFTU has expressed its concern at the latest wave of violence against trade union leaders, particularly those in the oil and transport sectors, teachers and civil servants.
The ICFTU points out that in October alone eight trade union leaders and activists were assassinated, bringing the total number killed this year to 118. The world's largest trade union organisation has reiterated its demand to the Colombian government to take the necessary measures to prevent any continuation of this anti-union violence.
